Loan amounts, annual percentage rates, fees and repayment terms are set by the lender and vary with the lender, your creditworthiness and your state of residence. In Tennessee an ordinary written contract is capped at the formula rate — four points over average prime, or 24% a year, whichever is less (Tenn. Code Ann. §§ 47-14-102, 47-14-103); that figure moves, and a lender licensed under the Industrial Loan and Thrift Companies Act may charge more.
